INTRODUCING THE PRIZM GUITAR

The Prizm Guitar is a radical new guitar which I designed. The name 'Prizm Guitar' is derived from the triangular lattice structure in the soundboard and braces. From an aesthetic point of view, each lattice reflects light at a different angle. This creates a unique shimmering effect unlike any other guitar.

The soundboard has triangular slices cut from both sides of the lower bout and glued back with the grain directed towards the focal point. The two focal points are exactly under the line of the saddle- optimizing the energy transfer from the vibrating strings to the soundboard.

One goal of the Prizm Guitar design is to increase the volume of the instrument. By relieving tension along the grain, the soundboard has a larger range for vibration thus increasing the volume. At the same time, the tension is augmented by the wedges that are parallel to the bridge. These pieces create a continuous grain path going perpendicular to the strings. I found this improves some of the mid-range frequency response. The tone of the Prizm Guitar is quite distinct from traditional guitars, but also very clear and focused.
